The government have pledged to continue Sports Premium funding until 2020. It is jointly provided by the Department of Education, the Department for Health & Culture and the Department for Media and Sport. All primary schools receive £16,000 plus £10 per pupil aged 5 or over. The number of ellegible children is calculated through the annual school census collected in January.
Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this. Information about the Government initiative for funding sport in primary schools can be found at DfE Sports Fund.
